Furling the Topsail

Painting – Oil on Canvas Board
60 x 45cm

I have spent a period crewing on Melbourne’s Tallship Enterprize which has involved working aloft with Allan Hetherton, on many occasions, in all weather conditions, as we furled sails or attended to other rigging needs. It’s at these times that crew really rely on each other to ensure the job gets done quickly and effectively.

The painting depicts Allan working aloft, gasketting the handsewn flax topsail, before the approaching weather front arrives.

Further details and specifications on the Enterprize can be obtained at the Enterprize Ship Trust website.
